According to WBBM 780′s Bob Roberts, Chicago and the Chicago Transit Authority are working on a way to help speed the commute for those who don’t use public transportation.
Each CTA bus now has a GPS transponder that is used for the bus tracker program, and Roberts reports that the transit agency will share the information with Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
CTA President Richard Rodriguez is quoted in the article saying that the buses GPS system will help to show how fast traffic is actually moving.
The idea is actually similar to a functionality that Google is rolling out in Chicago as part of its maps feature on GPS enabled mobile phones.
The GPS data would also help officials to learn where traffic signals could be better coordinated.
