INDOT halts holiday weekend construction

The Indiana Department of Transportation have halted all maintenance activities and work in construction zones through sunrise Tuesday. Depending on the stage of construction some work zones cannot be removed and will remain in place with road restrictions.

INDOT and construction crews said in a news release that both directions of Interstate 65 between Ind. 10 and Ind. 2 will be open to two lanes of travel for the Labor Day weekend.

The road reconstruction project underway had traffic restricted to one lane in each direction, and those will resume after the holiday weekend. The project is scheduled to be completed in November.

The following road closures will remain in place this weekend:

In Lake County, Ind., U.S. 12/20 will remain closed to all traffic at the lift bridge over Lake George Canal in East Chicago. The posted detour is Ind. 912 west to U.S. 41 north.

The Borman Expressway (I-80/94) between Ind. 53 (Broadway) and Central Avenue will be restricted to three lanes in each direction and five less-traveled ramps are closed. You can find more details here.

In Porter County, Ind., U.S. 20 remains closed to all traffic over Brown Ditch. The posted detour is Ind. 520 north to U.S. 12 east to U.S. 35 south.
