Metra officials have nixed a plan for a new train station in Crystal Lake, disappointing city officials who saw it as a convenience for residents and a likely push to development in the area.
A public hearing to annex the 17.5-acre site in Ridgefield into Crystal Lake was canceled Tuesday night after being delayed for almost a year. And Metra officials notified property owners by letter that funding was not available for the station.
The transit agency was prepared to spend $500,000 for improvements to the proposed site, and another $1.2 million for property and upgrades, according to the report.
