This week, eastbound traffic on the Borman Expressway (Interstate 80/94 in Lake County, Ind.) will be traveling on new concrete pavement, and three ramps will re-open to motorists, an Indiana Department of Transportation news release said.
Beginning Tuesday morning, the eastbound center and right lanes will be moved south onto new pavement. Also, the ramp from northbound Interstate 65 to eastbound Borman will adjust to a new configuration with a longer acceleration lane.
During the nighttime hours on Wednesday, the left lane of the eastbound Borman also will be shifted south, taking away the current Express Lane.
Once traffic is switched, eastbound lanes east of the ramp to I-65 south will have two through lanes and one through/ramp lane separated by a concrete barrier wall.
Taking the separated through/ramp lane will allow traffic to access the ramps to northbound I-65 and Central Avenue, or continue east on the Borman.
In addition, ramps from eastbound I-80/94 to northbound I-65, eastbound I-80/94 to Central Avenue and Broadway to eastbound I-80/94 are scheduled to reopen in the coming weeks.
The southbound I-65 ramp to eastbound I-80/94 will remain closed.
The work is part of a project that began in March 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2011 to widen the Borman from six to 10 lanes between Broadway and Central Avenue.
This lane configuration will remain in place through Summer 2010, when INDOT is scheduled to begin the third and final phase of the project, which entails widening the westbound lanes.
