UIC photo collection filled with old Chicago street scenes

UIC has made a collection of photographs available online that depict scenes from a bygone Chicago.

The IDOT Chicago Traffic Photograph Collection is housed in the Special Collections Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and contains about 2,300 images from Chicago transportation surveys and projects.

Many of the prints appear to have been made for the Chicago Park District Engineering Section. They document transportation in Chicago from the 1920s to the 1950s, and depict intersections, subways and underpasses, signs, bridges and viaducts, snow removal, pedestrians, and other features of traffic in the city.

This photo of the intersection at Sheridan Road and Broadway is from the Illinois Department of Transportation Chicago Traffic photographs that are part of a collection titled "IDOT Chicago Traffic Photographs" housed at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Repository: Special Collections and University Archives, University of Illinois at Chicago Library.
